Cormac McCarthy's The Road novel depicts the paternal love for a son as he illustrates the man's demise to elevate the book as a whole. As the father and son conversed with one another, "what would you do if i died? If you died i would die too. So you could be with me? Yes. So I could be with you."(11) In other word's the man doesn't value his life but continues to have hope for the sake of his son. The man's thirst for survival is fueled by the love of his son. Unlike his wife in her suicide, he knows suicide is an option but its the man's love for his son that drives him to ensure his son's survival, and not end his own life to end the miserable conditions that they were encountering. Throughout the novel, circumstances appeared that made the boy question who they now were, "Are we still the good guys? he said. Yes. We're still the good guys. And we always will be. Yes we always will be."(77) Due to the menacing events that sprung upon them, like the threat of the man who was threatening the kid with a knife, and refusal to help the man on the road has made the kid question if they are any longer the good guys. Despite the apocalyptic world they are in, the little boy cherishes life with his heart even in the current state is at and can't handle how they have to get along to survive. Thus making the father question himself if he is doing right, and wondering if the son still looks up to him because is the boy that symbolizes light in which maintains the man from resigning the inevitable causing him to get worse. Through all the salient circumstances the boy seems to have reached a climax, "The boy didn't answer. He just sat there with his head bowed, sobbing."(259) After the boy became the subject of despondent, the reader could realize the demise of the father. Finalizing that to the man the boy did mean everything to him and after seeing him in that state he realizes that he is not looked up too or seen the same for the things he has done to disappoint his son. It was hard for the man to keep fighting from there on as his conditions were getting worse and the fuel he had to fight for his son had drastically dropped due to the grave disappointment he caused him. When people feel as if they have no more hope, they don't see a reason to why they should keep looking forward any longer. It's their desperation to do everything right that causes them to do certain things with out the complacency of what they may cause to others.

The thesis was very strong and well developed, but you were summarizing the book and your conclusion was vague. You could worded some sentences differently to help support some of your evidence.
